Despair

In that moment when hope
screams hollow, lost for all
time, falling down into a
darkness which cannot be

imagined, and yet which is
always feared; hidden from
sight, but not thought; that
is when despair pegs itself

to the line of consciousness,
held in place, at the mercy
of the winds, and blazing
sun, for what seems eternity.

  1. That seems like a good description of despair as a darkness that one remains conscious through without hope that the situation will end.

  2. I have some memories of great despair and hope that I never revisit that place again. I suppose the fear is hidden...way back there in the back of my mind somewhere. Let's hope it stays there.

  3. An intuitive description of descent into despair. Only once in my life did I "run out of cope". You've described it well.

    1. Sometimes all we can do and what we must do is surrender.

    1. Yes. A good friend said to me many years ago that the good thing about reaching the bottom was that the only way then to go, was up. She was right. And sometimes you have to reach bottom before you can do that.
